Program participants rotate through the department and are assigned a variety of responsible tasks that put classroom experience into real-life practice."

Transportation Planner II, Orange County, NC

The Department has an immediate opening for a Transportation Planner II position. This position will represent Orange County on technical regional transportation decision making bodies (MPO/RPO) to develop regional transportation plans and project implementation programs within Federal and State guidelines and schedules. Applies knowledge of transportation concepts, regional planning organizations, and impact studies to provide staff support to advisory boards and elected officials. Facilitates information flow between and/or among the North Carolina Department of Transportation, regional planning organizations, local transit providers, and County officials. Processes agenda items that require Board of County Commissioners actions; Drafts amendments to the County’s Unified Development Ordinance to implement transportation goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan. Collects, analyzes and prepares reports on planning policies, socioeconomic, demographic, land use, and transportation related data. Drafts transportation related grant applications for State and Federal funds and administers grants. Assists in the review of development of proposals. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Uses ArcView and Microsoft Office software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook). Prepares professional reports and presentations. Regularly attends and presents at Orange Unified Transportation Board meetings. Some attendance and presentations also required at Planning Board and Board of County Commissioner meetings.

This positions serves as the City's agent to the Architectural Review Board and architectural historian.

Duties:
Serve as agent to the architectural review board. Implement and maintain a preservation plan. Manage historic survey & nomination activities. Manage grants used to carry out preservation activities. Provide training to property owners on the use of historic preservation tax credits. Coordinate seminars to targeted groups to communicate the importance of preservation. Carry out activities and complete required reports to maintain Roanoke’s Certified Local Government status. Support other planning staff in long-range planning efforts as needed.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in planning, historic preservation, architectural history, or related field, with Master’s preferred. 3-5 years related experience in an urban community Thorough knowledge of preservation, urban design, and development codes.

Conservation Specialist Position Opening

The Northern Neck Soil & Water Conservation District, a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is seeking a full-time Conservation Specialist. This person will assist in fulfilling the District’s mission of promoting the stewardship of natural resources through leadership, education, and technical assistance within Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland Counties.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· identifying and addressing soil and water quality concerns;

· providing technical assistance on agricultural and storm water issues;

· promoting Best Management Practices (BMPs) through conservation education;

· administering the Virginia Ag BMP Cost-Share Program.

The Conservation Specialist shall have a B.S. degree in agriculture/natural resources field or related experience. Certification as a Nutrient Management Specialist and an Erosion & Sediment Plan Reviewer must be obtained within a reasonable period of time.

Position salary range: $28,000 - $48,000, plus benefits.
