Tues Nov 2 Visit and Talk by Dr. Anne Hastings, Microfinance Leader in Haiti.

Dr. Anne Hastings has directed Fonkoze since 1996, when she left a position as Senior Partner and Managing Director of a management consulting company in Washington DC. Under her leadership Fonkoze has grown to become the most successful microfinance institution in Haiti.

After the January earthquake Fonkoze played a key role in channeling and disbursing international funds for Haiti reconstruction. Dr. Hastings holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and an Honorary Doctorate in Business Leadership from Duquesne University. She has also held research fellowships at the Brookings Institution and the U.S. Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. In 2008 Dr. Hastings was presented with the Women Together Award at United Nations headquarters in New York, as international recognition for her leadership on behalf of poor and marginalized women.

Dr. Hastings visit is sponsored by the Department of Political Science, the College of Business, the Virginia Tech Institute for Policy and Governance, the Women in Leadership an Philanthropy Endowed Lecture Fund, and the Women and Minority Artists and Scholars Lecture Series Grants.
