The Department has an immediate opening for a Transportation Planner II position. This position will represent Orange County on technical regional transportation decision making bodies (MPO/RPO) to develop regional transportation plans and project implementation programs within Federal and State guidelines and schedules. Applies knowledge of transportation concepts, regional planning organizations, and impact studies to provide staff support to advisory boards and elected officials. Facilitates information flow between and/or among the North Carolina Department of Transportation, regional planning organizations, local transit providers, and County officials. Processes agenda items that require Board of County Commissioners actions; Drafts amendments to the County’s Unified Development Ordinance to implement transportation goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Plan. Collects, analyzes and prepares reports on planning policies, socioeconomic, demographic, land use, and transportation related data. Drafts transportation related grant applications for State and Federal funds and administers grants. Assists in the review of development of proposals. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Uses ArcView and Microsoft Office software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook). Prepares professional reports and presentations. Regularly attends and presents at Orange Unified Transportation Board meetings. Some attendance and presentations also required at Planning Board and Board of County Commissioner meetings.
