Reston, Virginia, a planned community more than 40 years old, has been written about by a generation of planners. The approaching arrival of Metro to Reston is a critical project for the region and will generate new opportunities as well as new challenges for the growing area.
The Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force, which began meeting in January 2010, is charged with making recommendations for amendments to the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan that will help guide future development in Reston and adjoining areas located along the Dulles Airport Access and Toll Road (the Dulles Corridor).
Join Patty Nicoson as she discusses the public participation process of this important study and the scope of the project.

Revitalizing Richmond Highway with mixed-use walkable development, while linking revitalization, stream restoration, and better stormwater management – priceless! These interconnected issues will be featured at our community forum, co-sponsored by the Coalition for Smarter Growth, Northern Virginia Section of APA-VA, Friends of Dyke Marsh, Lee District Association of Civic Organizations, and Audubon Naturalist Society.
With maps and photos of neighborhood streams, this event will illustrate the serious challenges faced by the streams passing through communities along the Richmond Highway Corridor, while updating the community on recently completed stream restoration plans. Stewart Schwartz (CSG) and Stella Koch (ANS) will team up to show how redevelopment on the acres of parking lots in the corridor can be linked to good stormwater management. This event will also cover cost-effective ways to reduce runoff from your own home and yard.
Community members will have the opportunity to “ask the experts” and discuss the next steps necessary to restore the community’s streams.
