Alexandria Bicycle and Ped Adv Comm Seeking Volunteers for Sept 15 and 17

The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) has been conducting counts of bicyclists and pedestrians at locations throughout the City of Alexandria as part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project.  Our first set of counts, in July 2011, showed large numbers on the Mt. Vernon Trail and at locations that are connected to that trail by paved trails or bicycle lanes.  As new facilities open, we hope to see numbers rise all over Alexandria.

BPAC is seeking volunteers to help them conduct manual counts on Thursday, September 15th (5pm-7pm) and/or Saturday, September 17th (12pm-2pm).  Training (about 1 hour) will be provided in advance.  Doing counts is as easy as putting tick marks on a counting form.  Volunteering with BPAC is also a good way to meet other biking and walking enthusiasts here in Alexandria.

For further information on how to participate as a volunteer counter, please write to Dan McNulty at alexandriabpac@gmail.com.
