Organization: The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) is leading the revival of walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. A membership-based, advocacy organization, CNU works to advance and promote the principles of New Urbanism. CNU seeks to restore urbanist design and planning techniques to common practice. Summary: CNU seeks an experienced program manager to coordinate a range of CNU initiatives and serve as the point of contact for Chapters. Under the direction of the President & CEO, the Program Manager will perform the following duties:

Responsibilities:

Initiatives Coordination: Oversee a range of CNU Initiatives, as assigned by the President & CEO. Ex. Highways to Boulevards Initiative, Sprawl Retrofit, Rainwater-in-Context
  • Draft/co-draft annual workplans for each initiative
  • Assign and take on tasks, as necessary, to meet workplan expectations
  • Track and report workplan progress on initiative website and at board meetings
  • Coordinate with membership
  • Identify board and member leaders
  • Lead monthly conference calls on initiative update
  • Accept and review applications for new initiatives
  • Work with the Development Director to seek funding to support initiatives
  • Publish initiative reports as necessary
  • Coordinate with communications staff to promote initiatives work through website development, email blasts, news articles and published works
Chapters Coordination: Act as a liaison between CNU staff and local Chapters.
  • Connect Chapter members to relevant initiatives
  • Manage reoccurring communication such as monthly calls, monthly membership lists and quarterly checks
  • Assist Chapters with administrative functions such as membership fees, Chapter web pages and event registration
  • Assist Chapter organizing committees in establishing Chapters
  • Assist Chapters in building membership and organizing events
  • Visit local Chapters
  • Maintain Chapter Manual
  • Recommend modifications to Chapter policy
  • Advise Chapters, President, and Board on role of Chapters
  • Organize Chapter meet-ups and Chapter luncheon at annual Congress
  • Maintain Chapter membership lists, contact lists and files
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Three years of professional experience in program management and planning, or an equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated success in research, data analysis, people and project management
  • Willingness to travel
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and interest in New Urbanism and the design industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), database (Filemaker Pro) software in Mac OS environment
  • Ability to prepare reports and other documents
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to be highly organized in a fast-paced work environment
  • Skills in interacting and maintaining effective relationships with Board members, staff, members and the general public
